MACS® Technology for Cell Separation

Pharmaco (NZ) Ltd is proud to supply Miltenyi Biotec MACS® Cell Separation Technology to the New Zealand research community.

 

Miltenyi Biotec is a German based company, specialising in MACS® Technology for Magnetic Cell Separation.  MACS® Technology has become a standard method for cell separation and involves magnetically labelling a target cell population with MACS® MicroBeads.  These superparamagnetic particles, which are coupled to highly specific monoclonal antibodies, are approximately 50nm in size, biodegradable and gentle on cells.

 

The patented MACS® Column Technology is specifically designed to generate a strong magnetic field while maintaining optimal cell viability and function.  By using a MACS® Column placed in a permanent magnet, magnetically labelled cells can be retained.  Once the column is removed from the magnet, the labelled fraction can be eluted.  With MACS® Technology, both the labelled and unlabelled fractions are now highly pure and recovery of the cells is optimal.

 

This versatile technology is quick and easy to use and can be applied to positive selection of target cells, depletion of unwanted cells, as well as isolation of specific cytokine-secreting cells.  Isolated cells can be used directly for further experiments such as cell culture or flow cytometry. MACS® Technology for cell separation provides:

 

  • Optimized reagents for the separation of both frequent and rare cells.
  • 50nm, biodegradable MicroBeads are gentle on cells and allow purification of viable and functionally active cells.  
  • Suitable for any cell type - over 200 reagents for the direct isolation of human, mouse, rat and non-human primate cells; any other cells can be isolated using indirect MicroBeads.
  • MicroBeads do not influence flow cytometry, microscopic analysis or downstream cell culture.
  • An easy-to-use cell separation system providing optimal purity and recovery of cells.
